Lidl Grocery Stores Now Open in Richmond-Plus My Review of Lidl
What I liked about Lidl is that I did not have to worry about needing $0.25 for a cart. Lidl store hours are 8am-9pm Monday-Sunday.
I walked in and was immediately tempted by their bakery-the smell of fresh baked goods! I did not buy any but one of my co-workers brought me an apple turnover and a cookie from their bakery. I devoured both! They tasted so good!
Lidl had some nice deals on limes and apples so I picked up a few. I wanted spinach but did not see any. Their produce section is small but has a decent selection.
The first aisle I walked down had dairy products, bread, coffee, lunch meat, bacon. I picked up some lunch meat, cheese and coffee.
They have a rather larger frozen foods section. Lots of ice cream choices to pick out at a good price!
They have a decent wine selection with prices that everyone can afford. I was tempted to pick up a bottle but decided not too!
Lidl is bigger than ALDI and everything was easy to find. Checkout was kind of confusing. But the cashier was friendly. You do need to bring your own bags or you can purchase bags at the register. You will also need to bag your own items.
As I was walking out, they had a stand where you can pick up the weekly ad for the following week.
Their prices on staple items were pretty comparable to other grocery stores in the Richmond area.
Organic and Gluten-Free Options: I saw a variety of organic and gluten-free items
including organic fruit, vegetables, meat, dairy, and packaged food items, at decent prices.
All of this was about $46.00 which isn’t too bad. I already had plenty of meat at home so I mainly bought staples that I was running low on.
Their BBQ chips were pretty good! I also purchased their Cookie Dough Ice Cream. I was impressed at how many cookie dough pieces were in my ice cream!
Ways to Save at LIDL
-While Lidl does not accept manufacturer coupons, you can download their App where they offer digital coupons for their items. I was able to use a coupon for the lunch meat that I had purchased
- Look for markdown items
I found their brand of Hawaiian bread marked down to only $1.25! I also saw packaged meat marked down. I stock up when I see deals like this and keep the meat in the freezer until needed.
- Shop Sale items-Lidl offers “fresh 5” deals in which certain produce/meat are on sale at a deep price. You can check out their weekly ad
Overall, I liked Lidl. The store is welcoming, I was able to find things easily and friendly staff. The only thing I do not like about Lidl is their ad-some deals are only good for Thursday-Sunday, some Monday-Wednesday etc. I try not to go to the grocery store often so some deals that you want may require two trips. Although Lidl will not be my main store to shop it, it is a place where I will pick up their produce and meat items that are on sale for that week.
If you haven’t checked out Lidl, find a location near you and be sure to stop by!
